The world is
transcending in its dynamics by the day, same way its problem and challenges
does hereby giving rise for a continuous need for new solutions.
In the
contemporary, problem solving has heavily relied on empirical bases that
usually builds on data to be collected analysed before arriving at any logical
conclusions, compared to the wooden age past where decisions are dogmatically jumped at with its many regrets
and potential setbacks from errors be it “Type I, Type II”. I Smiled.
Problem
solving is an everyday task especially in advanced educational pursuit/studies
where substantial priorities are placed on innovative researches hereby emphasizing
the importance of problem solving in building better societies.
In these
quests people, especially advanced learners usually have a need to choose or
decide what problem they like to solve or better put; what project will they
like to work on, and answering this question has posed lots of challenges,
while others only end up with less innovative or less relevant solutions.
Although no solution is irrelevant once it is a solution, raising the need to
choose rightly. Choosing or arriving at a good research topic should not be
problematic or stressful.
How do you choose a good project topic?
1. 1. Brainstorm/Network extensively to know what problem is worth addressing
In some higher learning institutions, supervisors are usually
responsible for assigning project topics to students while the students are
given the privilege to choose their individual topics and submit for approval
in some other cases. Partners and sponsors also give topics in advanced
settings to address pressing societal or institutional challenges.
Brainstorming enables the prospective researcher explore
common areas of personal interest in coming up with a great topics. Talk about your
research ideas with a friend/colleagues to detect issues that didn't occur to
you at first.
Recent project from Libraries, Net, etc topics and research
materials are significant areas to explore when researching in choosing the
right topic for your project. You become familiar with them and your innovation
faculty is aroused.
Also refer to lecture notes and existing texts to refresh your knowledge and sharpen your mind of the course areas.
3.
Involve your Supervisor and superiors
Supervisors/superiors provides direct, support, and supervise the entire research process for optimal research performance. The supervisors have the will to accept or decline a proposed topic without question, so involving them saves you from undue setbacks.
4. Review Relevant Literatures
After choosing a few area on interest to research on, it becomes necessary to study round the point. The essence of this to gain a broader view and understanding on your new area of interest that you know little about. Look out for academic journals, term papers, conference materials, research databases, and other relevant literature archives for more documents about your chosen topic. At the end of this stage, you’ll be able to have decided on one topic with ample resources to conduct your research on.
5. Establish and Begin your Research Topic
Once you get adequate understanding of your research interest such as concept, scope, trends, and relevance are determined, you can easily come up with your topic around a relevant problem. Narrow your topic to something well manageable. Get a go-ahead on the project topic from your supervisor, and starting the project now becomes easy.`
6. Decide whether you have what it takes and how to meet them
Is it true that some topics are relatively easier, as
there are lots of data and information available from other sources while it is
otherwise for some others.
You must like the topic you choose, which also must be
aligned to your strengths and abilities. In this way, the process will be much
easier, and you can always improve your skills.
Due to the increasing rate of project neglect/abandonment, which is primarily caused by a lack of required resources such as material resources (Finance), Human resource (morale, knowledge and zeal), Institutional Supports and environmental factors (Conducive environment), it is imperative that one takes due diligence in brainstorming what is best at what time, what purpose and place in order to be successful.
